Circus & Zoo Elephants Need Help
It's only recently that the evidence is being popularized that elephants are highly intelligent and passionately social creatures, with many of the same behaviors and feelings as humans. Yet, you still find elephants performing unnatural acts for minutes at a time in Circuses and chained to the ground for the rest of the day. Few zoos are enlightened enough to build anything resembling a humane exhibit area for their elephants. The ones rooted in the past have small enclosures resembling prison cells more than anything else. For this reason, we are active supporters of Elephant sanctuaries such as PAWS in California and The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. These facilities have the sprawling green spaces elephants need to get the exercise their bodies require. Organization like In Defense of Animals are actively working to help more elephants retire to the fine sanctuary facilities.

Wild Elephants Need Help Too
In their native Africa and Asia, elephants are being crowded out of their ancestral homelands by the press of sprawling humanity. The fascination that some have for the ivory from their tusks has fostered a black market that promotes the illegal slaughter of elephants in their native African countries. These pressures are quickly decimating the size of natural elephant herds to the point that survival of the species may soon be in question. We support organizations such as the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust that rescues orphaned elephants and raises them until they can survive in the wild. Other organizations that are doing excellent work worldwide include Carol Buckley's Elephant Aid International, Soraida Sawala's Friends of the Asian Elephant Hospital, and Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary.
